Instructor - Craig Cook-Sullivan Black men come to the barber shop for much more than a shave and a haircut! Craig Cook-Sullivan is a San Francisco native and a professional barber since 1995. He has cut Black men’s hair in San Francisco for almost 3 decades where he has learned a lot about living and healing. From mental illness to street violence, he cuts men’s hair during the darkest and brightest times of their lives. He is an expert in the art of active listening, hearing people speak their peace, and being fully present so that he can give witness to their personal struggles. During a haircut, men get a chance to stop and reflect on how they live their lives. Craig hears it all and has a deep well of personal knowledge that guides his connectedness to clients and community. Craig’s interest in helping people formed early in his life, first as an Omega Boy's club member and then continuing into his studies of Social Welfare at HBCU Dillard University. As a pillar in his community, Craig organizes community dinner giveaways and has been a case manager for nonprofits focused on Black American health. He believes passionately in “working deeper with people” and… he loves hair.
