Our Mission

MISSION:
The Good Life’s mission is to combat the public health crisis with dementia, heart disease and diabetes that disproportionately affects Black and Latin Americans. We provide classes and resources that honor our elders, support adults, and empower our youth for a healthier tomorrow; one filled with vitality and dignity for all.

VISION:
To create a movement for Black and Latino Americans to adopt a healthy lifestyle today, ensuring a prolonged, healthier, and happier tomorrow for generations to come.

WHAT WE DO:
The Good Life provides complimentary online classes, and in-person health fairs that are tailored to match the specific interests of the community. Our class offerings support the healthy development of Black and Latin Americans through shared positive experiences that celebrate health, well-being, and personal growth by supporting local communities of color.

OUR WHY:
The United States has a long history of providing quality medical care to middle and upper-class White Americans, contributing to the unprecedented growth of the elderly population. As a result, the average age is increasing, and more older adults are living healthier, independent lives due to access to quality healthcare and healthier lifestyles.

However, systemic racism in American medicine has prevented Black and Latin Americans from receiving the same level of care. Biases in medical treatment, disparities in access to healthcare, socioeconomic factors, and differences in insurance coverage contribute to these disparities, resulting in poorer health outcomes, particularly for older adults.

The Good Life leadership recognizes the need for meaningful changes in healthcare delivery. In minoritized communities, neighbors and family play a crucial role in supporting and caring for their members, especially children and elders.

The Good Life’s lifestyle interventions are designed to succeed by embracing the larger community where older adults live. Our effective interventions support the entire community – family, friends, and neighbors.

THE GOOD LIFE OVERVIEW:
The Good Life provides multigenerational support to Black and Latin American families, fostering sustainable communities focused on healthy lifestyles. While most classes are tailored for older adults, we are continually expanding to include midlife adults and children. We aim to strengthen the communities that care for vulnerable older adults and their families.

The Good Life (TheGoodLifePath.org) supports all Black Americans on their path to health and wellness.
La Buena Vida (CaminoBuenaVida.org) supports all Latin Americans on their path to health and wellness.
