Equipment

  • paring knife or melon baller,
  • saucepan

Ingredients

  • 4 crunchy apples (honeycrisp, jonagold, or pink lady recommended)
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup cup oats
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (almonds, walnuts, or pecans recommended)
  • 4 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup hot water

Instructions

  • 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
    2. Slice the top section of the apple off to make an apple lid. Using a small paring knife or melon baller, scoop out the core of the apple, leaving at least a ½ inch of flesh on the outside.
3 .In a separate bowl, mix together the cinnamon, flour, brown sugar, oats, nuts, salt, and melted butter until it forms crumbly clusters.
    4. Heat the water up in a microwave or over a saucepan until it boils.
    5. Arrange your apples on a 8x8 or 9inch cake pan (any baking dish with walls) and pour in the boiling water - just enough to have at least a ½ inch puddle of juice at the bottom.
    6. Bake for 40-50 minutes or until the apples have softened and the crumble top has browned.
    7. Pluck apples out of the pan and enjoy with vanilla ice cream!
